Processing Equipment
Company Description

Urschel Laboratories, Inc., a global producer of food cutting technology, was founded in 1910. The firm designs, produces, and distributes high-capacity, precision cutting equipment to food processors and allied sectors across the world. Its solutions are employed in industrial food processing processes that require constant and precise cutting performance.

Urschel has a global sales and support network, offering food processing solutions to both regional and international customers. In addition to gear, the firm creates unique cutting technologies, constantly increasing its portfolio of solutions to meet changing processing needs and current client operations. Urschel machinery and crucial components are all built in-house, assuring consistent manufacturing quality and durability for long-term use in industrial situations. The firm is an employee-owned (ESOP) corporation that focuses on maintaining consistent production and operating standards.

In July 2025, Urschel created a relationship with KRONEN GmbH and invested in the German firm. As part of this agreement, Urschel also supplies KRONEN gear in a few foreign markets, broadening its offering beyond cutting equipment to include other processing options.

Customers can witness a free test cutting of their product on Urschel and select KRONEN machinery in-person, live remotely, or through receiving videos and/or photos. A comprehensive report is generated for each test cut for customer consideration.

Urschel designs and engineers many cutting solutions to benefit the potato sector. The Urschel CC (Chip Cutter) Slicer revolutionized the potato crisp/chip market when it was unveiled in 1959 and continues to be the go-to potato chip/crisp slicer years later. Other popular one-, two-, and three-dimensional Urschel potato commercial food cutting equipment include the DiversaCut® series: DiversaCut 2110A®, Sprint 2®, and DiversaCut Sprint® Dicers.

Urschel machines deliver precise cuts including flat, crinkle, V, cubes, strips, French fry strips, and numerous other styles of cuts to meet the everchanging demands of the dynamic food processing industry. KRONEN machinery assists Urschel in providing processing line options including cutting, peeling, washing, and drying solutions. Learn more and view all Urschel processing solutions at urschel.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Urschel balance standardization with customization for global clients?

Potato applications differ by region. The Urschel global network of service, sales, and support helps determine the optimal solution based on processors’ unique production needs and regional market demands. Urschel partners with customers to create solutions that are easy to operate, reliable, and built for processors worldwide.

Patented Urschel technology is continually expanded upon to fully support and grow Urschel customer’s existing capabilities. This allows new cutting methods and shapes to be implemented on machines already operating in the field. Urschel customers benefit from new parts and newly developed knives specifically designed to meet their production requirements.

Why is Urschel particularly strong in the potato processing segment?

Processors rely on the strength of the Urschel global network of service, sales, and support for potato production. The Urschel network works as a unified team to help processors reach production goals. Each local office is directly immersed in the area they service, reassuring customers everywhere that Urschel is a trusted partner ready to help processors meet production demands.

Founded in 1910, Urschel is a globally recognized name in the potato processing sector with many well-known lines for potato processing. This includes the CC Series for highyield potato slicing, the DiversaCut Series for crinkle, deep crinkle, and flat dices and strips, and the Comitrol Series for high-quality flaking or particle size reduction.

Positive feedback from Urschel customers is the result of over a century of dedicated service helping processors reach – and exceed – production goals. Customers see Urschel as a valued business partner they can trust to follow through on commitments, even long after the machine is installed. Urschel is diligent when giving people its word – ensuring that when they work with a customer, they take great care and work hard to fulfill their production goals.

How does Urschel sustain competitive advantage in a commoditizing food processing equipment market?

Urschel supports reliable, long-term machine performance through in-house engineering and manufacturing of critical parts and knives. Designed for durability and ease of use in rugged production environments, Urschel machinery keeps processors up and running for decades in the field. Precision, ruggedly engineered parts reduce changeover frequency and extend knife life to help processors maintain efficient, uninterrupted production.

In an era of automation, how can Urschel integrate AI and data analytics into cutting systems?

Many Urschel machines are engineered for CIP (Clean in Place) to save processors time and effort. Urschel machines may also be enabled to link into a central control room (PLC) where amperage and feed rates, along with other key indicators and other valuable data, can be easily monitored. This allows processors to maintain smooth operations, ensure consistency, and follow established production standards with fewer operations required.

Urschel additionally values customer input and prioritizes building relationships with customers through its global network. Customer feedback provides Urschel with valuable data to develop and refine solutions to help processors meet production needs.
