May 08, 2008
The Bangladeshi caretaker government has arranged a three-day mega potato fair in capital Dhaka with companies and hotels showcasing recipes to popularizes the vegetable as a top food item to ease pressure off the main staple rice.

The country's first ever three-day potato show on May 7-9 comes amid a bumper potato harvest in the country and a skyrocketing price of rice.

Bangladesh's farmers this year harvested eight million tons of potato, up at least 40 percent than last year.

CSD Bangladesh, the country's largest super chain shops owned by the armed forces, arranged the show in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
