Night owls send McDonald's Japan profits soaring

February 08, 2008
McDonald's Japan said Thursday its net profit jumped more than five-fold last year as the burger giant introduced more round-the-clock restaurants and updated its menu.

Japan's leading fast-food chain predicted profits to keep growing this year as it cashed in on the popularity of a series of new items, including the "McGriddle"breakfast pancakes and the "Mega Mac"with four beef patties.

McDonald's Holdings Co. Japan Ltd., the affiliate of the US burger empire, said its net profit shot up to 7.82 billion yen (73 million dollars) in the year to December 31, up from 1.55 billion yen in 2006.
