The Victorian potato industry is struggling because of the heatwave.

This year's potato crop was expected to be successful after a good start, but the recent hot weather has dried up irrigation sources.

Norm Suckling, a potato farmer from Mollongghip near Ballarat, says the cool weather forecast for tomorrow will probably come too late.

"Everybody thought we'd finally come though a fairly hard run and we were perhaps going to make a few dollars to try and square up some of the debt, but this particular area in Victoria is probably as dry as anything we've had.
