Fenland farmer Richard Lee will parade a giant potato harvester through the heart of London next weekend.

The flagship Grimme potato harvester will be one of the largest displays in the Lord Mayor’s Show, which starts at 11am on Saturday, November 13.

It is the latest in a long line of agricultural machinery to support the efforts of the Worshipful Company of Farmers promote the importance of home-grown food production.

The 683rd Lord Mayor’s Show, which attracts an audience of about half a million people along the three-mile route through the centre of London, ends at the Mansion House.

The self-propelled two row harvester is also representing the potato industry and has been made available by Mr Lee, of Highflyer Farm, who is based near Ely.

The Grimme Varitron 270, which has a seven tonne buffer, has excellent manoeuvrability and cab visibility, which will allow the driver to negotiate the tight corners and road system in central London. And Potato Council will also use the opportunity to promote the role of the potato in a health diet.
