Nearly half of all primary schools in the UK are getting passionate about potatoes, as the largest educational project for young children gets underway. ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ from Potato Council, now in its sixth year, is helping hundreds of thousands children aged between five and eleven learn the basics of food origin, healthy eating, and of course, enjoy eating potatoes. Participating schools have now planted their seed potatoes from their free growing kits and, backed by resources from www.potatoesforschools.org.uk, have three months to care for their plants and learn about what they need to grow before harvesting their crops in June.
