Tasmanian potato growers supplying Simplot have reluctantly agreed to a AU$25 cut per tonne of potatoes grown this season.

About half of the company's suppliers met in Deloraine last night to discuss whether they would accept the offer.

Grower group chairman Trevor Hall says he thinks farmers will stick the price out for one year, and if it doesn't improve they will either exit the industry or try something else.
He says he would like to see more government support to protect Australia from cheaper imports.

Earlier this year, Tasmanian potato growers agreed a price cut with McCain Foods Australia of AU$ 26.50.
