Both the ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston Richland processing facility and the ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston/RDO Frozen Foods Plant in Park Rapids have earned ENERGY STAR® designation for 2010 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA awards the ENERGY STAR to plants achieving a high level of energy efficiency, based on the EPA’s Energy Performance Indicator (EPI). Both plants score in the top 25 percent within the frozen potato processing industry.
“The ENERGY STAR award is a result of longstanding and diligent efforts to improve energy performance by the entire team at the Richland plant,” said Rick Martin, vice president of manufacturing, ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston.
John MacArthur, Richland plant manager, reiterated that earning the ENERGY STAR, one of the most widely recognized “green” marks in the world, was a team effort. “We are always examining how we, as a team, can reduce our demand on resources,” said MacArthur.

In 2008, ConAgra Foods and others worked alongside the EPA to develop the EPI tool for food manufacturing. The EPA selected potato processing as one of the first types of food manufacturing plants to benchmark because of the amount of energy and water they typically use.
