Tong Peal, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of handling and sorting equipment for the vegetable handling industry, has introduced the UK’s first combined washing and polishing vegetable cleaning system.
Tong Peal’s Spray Washer innovately combines washing and polishing to increase efficiency and deliver optimum flexibility and control over crop cleaning.
Unlike conventional barrel washers, the Spray Washer’s high pressure, high volume spray bar and adjustable barrel incline ensures that crops are not immersed in water, but instead are washed by fresh water through the powerful spray jets – therefore receiving an improved wash quality. The spray bar can also be fed directly by recycled water from a customer’s own water treatment plant or from one of Tong Peal’s water tanks.
The unique design also allows greater polishing flexibility for growers processing differing types of vegetables throughout the year, as it incorporates a range of polishing tools, including an interchangeable brush, rubber pintle or plane stainless steel barrel plates. The Washer also features a pneumatic air bag to alter the angle of the variable-speed barrel.
A key feature of the design is the removal of the end plates – an area where stones and debris can get trapped and cause maintenance problems.
The washer is available in 2, 3, 4 and 4.5 metre barrel lengths, with expected outputs of between 3 and 25 tonnes per hour.
The newly developed stainless steel Cyclone Destoner System has also been introduced as part of the new range.
