In a major step to strengthen India’s potato ecosystem, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Media Today jointly organized the Potato Stakeholders Meet, bringing together leaders from across the Indian potato value chain to chart a roadmap for sectoral growth.

The event witnessed a powerful amalgamation of the potato value chain, bringing together policymakers, and industry pioneers to deliberate on enhancing India’s global footprint in potato exports through innovation, value addition, and collaboration.

APEDA and Media Today successfully organized the Potato Stakeholders’ Meet 2025 — a landmark gathering that united industry leaders to drive innovation, value addition, and export growth in India’s potato sector.

The event, chaired by Mr. Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA, was attended by Mr. Ranjit Singh, Joint Secretary, MoFPI; Mr. Neeraj Sharma, Country Head, CIP; Dr. Sudhanshu, Secretary, APEDA; Dr. Vijay Kishor Gupta, Principal Scientist, CPRI; and Vinita Sudhanshu, GM, APEDA, among other key industry figures. 

Prominent participants included Sachidanand Madan, Convenor; Davinder Singh Dosanjh, CEO, Mahindra HZPC Pvt. The discussions focused on:

  • Expanding India’s potato export potential and exploring new markets.
  • Enhancing global competitiveness through quality improvement and certification.
  • Promoting domestic consumption and value addition.
  • Strengthening infrastructure, including cold chains, logistics, and quality assurance systems.
  • Developing new seed varieties for processing and exports, including to African markets.
  • Encouraging chemical-free preservation methods for extended storage and export readiness.

The meeting concluded with key recommendations, including:

  • Formation of two Working Groups — one for export promotion and another for boosting domestic consumption.
  • Policy facilitation and bilateral agreements among SAARC nations to enhance potato and seed exports.
  • Establishment of an Indian Potato Board to streamline the national supply chain.
  • Promotion of Indian seed varieties in overseas markets.
  • Introduction of export incentives or subsidies for processed potato products.

The forum also extended an invitation to all stakeholders to participate in the upcoming Global Potato Summit 2025, a platform to collectively showcase the Indian Potato Power to the world.
