Aviko and Aviko Rixona have published their Sustainability Report 2025, outlining the steps taken to further improve the sustainability of their production chain and reinforce their long-term climate ambitions.

A key milestone highlighted in the report is the official validation of their climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), confirming that their pathway toward 2030 is aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement.

From ambition to concrete action

The report demonstrates how Aviko translates sustainability ambitions into practical actions across the value chain, with a focus on:

  • Electrification of production sites: In 2025, the e-boiler in Venray delivered promising results, while a new e-boiler was installed in Warffum.
  • Collaboration with growers: Through initiatives such as Future Proof Farming, growers from the Netherlands and France shared insights and experiences to support more sustainable agriculture.
  • Lower-carbon solutions: Steps were taken in transport, raw materials, and plant-based innovation, including the introduction of lower-carbon potato flakes and granules.

The power of connection across the chain

A central theme of the 2025 report is collaboration. Aviko emphasizes that sustainability in the food chain is a shared responsibility, requiring close cooperation between growers, suppliers, customers, and partners.

Anouk Wentink, Sustainability Manager at Aviko:

"For me, the year 2025 was mainly about working together — with colleagues within Aviko, as well as growers, suppliers, customers and other partners in the chain. Every day, we are taking steps together to make our chain more sustainable."

"Cooperation is not a means, but a condition. Only by truly working together can we make potato cultivation and the industry future-proof."

"Aviko takes on the role of connecting the chain — from grower to table. That is in our DNA, and it is this role that helps us move forward on our sustainability agenda."

"I am proud of the progress we have made together with our chain partners over the past year."

Strengthening cooperation through initiatives

A key example of this collaborative approach is the launch of the Sustainable Supplier Program, developed together with Cosun and international suppliers.

  • In April 2025, Aviko brought together its top 50 suppliers to initiate more sustainable collaboration.
  • Early results include the use of biofuels in potato transport, testing of electric trucks on international routes, and research into plant-based alternatives to dairy ingredients.

Additional collaboration initiatives included a Sustainability Day for German customers, fostering dialogue on sustainability in cultivation, production, and end markets. The joint development of plant-based and lower-CO₂ products with customers marked another important milestone.

The Future Proof Farming programme further demonstrates how shared responsibility and knowledge exchange with growers help accelerate the transition toward sustainable agriculture.

Reducing CO₂ emissions in production

Aviko continues to focus on reducing emissions within its factories. Together with Cosun, the company has established reduction targets aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement, validated by SBTi in 2025.

Key developments include:

  • Electrification efforts in Lomm, Venray, and Warffum using e-boilers
  • Collaboration with partners such as TenneT and Enexis to support the energy transition
  • Tailor-made agreements in 2025 with Cosun and the Dutch government focused on reducing energy consumption, CO₂ emissions, and nitrogen emissions

Looking ahead: ‘This is just the beginning’

Aviko stresses that while meaningful progress has been made, more action is required to meet climate goals and ensure the long-term future of potato cultivation.

The company aims to continue:

  • Building long-term partnerships across the chain
  • Developing joint sustainability initiatives
  • Sharing data and measuring impact collectively

With a strong belief that every step counts, Aviko positions collaboration as the driving force behind its sustainability journey.
