Een prijsstijging van diepvriesfrites is onvermijdelijk, gezien de achterstand die aardappelplanten door de droogte hebben opgelopen ten opzichte van voorgaande jaren.
Dat zeggen fritesfabrikanten. De stijgende aardappelprijs heeft direct impact op de fritesprijzen, geeft Leon de Boer van Farm Frites aan. "Voor de dagmarkt en lange termijn. Zeker 10 tot 20 procent. Het is nu afwachten of we krap komen of dat we een tekort krijgen. De stemming is in elk geval duidelijk."
Volgens Han van der Hoek, directeur grondstoffen bij McCain, zijn er weinig telers die niet profiteren van de prijsverhoging. "Er zijn weinig telers die volledig voor een vaste prijs contracteren. De prijzen worden hoger dan we in de afgelopen drie jaar hebben meegemaakt. In heel Europa is het droog en warm, dus dit wordt elders niet gecompenseerd."
De aardappelketen gaat een goed seizoen tegemoet. "De huidige omstandigheden stuwen de agrarische markt. Dat is geweldig voor de primaire sector. Het geeft ruimte om te investeren."Ook de Belgische fritesproducent Lutosa geeft tegenover persbureau Belga aan dat de fritesprijs de komende maanden de hoogte in gaat.
