Door de aanhoudende regen van de voorbije maanden is de aardappeloogst compleet aan het mislukken: een deel van de aardappelen ligt gewoon te rotten op de velden en kan heel moeilijk geoogst worden, zegt Romain Cools van Belgapom.
Daar komt nog bij dat veel aardappelen deze zomer 'opgeschoten' zijn: ze kregen veel kleine knolletjes, die de moederaardappel leegzogen en 'glazig' maakten. Cools verwacht dan ook duurdere aardappelen, zeker in diepvriesbereidingen.
'Door de schitterende oogsten van vorig jaar waren diepvriesfrieten en -kroketten goedkoper dan verse. Aan die toestand komt wellicht een einde, maar vandaag kunnen we nog niet weten hoeveel die diepvriesproducten gaan opslaan.'
