Both the ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston Richland processing facility and the ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston/RDO Frozen Foods Plant in Park Rapids have earned ENERGY STAR® designation for 2010 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA awards the ENERGY STAR to plants achieving a high level of energy efficiency, based on the EPA’s Energy Performance Indicator (EPI). Both plants score in the top 25 percent within the frozen potato processing industry.
“The ENERGY STAR award is a result of longstanding and diligent efforts to improve energy performance by the entire team at the Richland plant,” said Rick Martin, vice president of manufacturing, ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston.
John MacArthur, Richland plant manager, reiterated that earning the ENERGY STAR, one of the most widely recognized “green” marks in the world, was a team effort. “We are always examining how we, as a team, can reduce our demand on resources,” said MacArthur.
Mic Ryan, Park Rapids plant manager, reiterated that earning the ENERGY STAR, one of the most widely recognized “green” marks in the world, was a team effort. “We are always examining how we, as a team, can reduce our demand on resources,” said Ryan.
In 2008, ConAgra Foods and others worked alongside the EPA to develop the EPI tool for food manufacturing. The EPA selected potato processing as one of the first types of food manufacturing plants to benchmark because of the amount of energy and water they typically use.
At Lamb Weston, environmental stewardship is evident through every step of growing, processing, packaging, and transporting its products. The company seizes every opportunity to preserve and protect vital natural resources by managing energy and water usage, and by reducing waste and pollution.
Lamb Weston’s efforts reflect ConAgra Foods’ commitment to doing the right thing for its communities and the environment through an integrated corporate responsibility platform, “Good for You. Good for the Planet. Good for the Environment.”
