De aardappelsector maakt zich grote zorgen over de handel in illegaal pootgoed. De NVWA legt een link met ringrot. ”Onze buitenlandse concurrenten gebruiken dit om Nederlandse pootgoed zwart te maken.”
De verontwaardiging in de aardappelsector is groot over de illegale handel in pootaardappelen vanuit Goeree Overflakkee. Breeders Trust, de opsporingsorganisatie van acht Europese handelshuizen, heeft bewijzen voor de illegale handel. De voedselautoriteit NVWA vermoedt dat verspreiding van illegaal pootgoed de oorzaak is van de vele uitbraken van ringrot in het Zuid-Hollandse gebiedsdeel.
Dit maakt de aardappelsector erg ongerust. Nederland heeft de ringrotvrije status. Bij uitbraken in het verleden kwam die vrije status niet in gevaar, omdat de NVWA direct maatregelen trof om verspreiding tegen te gaan van de zeer besmettelijke en hardnekkige aardappelziekte. Maar nu op Goeree Overflakkee sinds 2009 voortdurend nieuwe ringrotuitbraken zijn en een link is gelegd met illegale handel in pootaardappelen, kan Brussel wel eens minder vertrouwen hebben in de Nederlandse aanpak.
