Green Thumb Farms

Green Thumb Farms, Inc. is a family-owned potato grower and packer situated in Fryeburg, Maine, that produces and promotes potatoes to supermarkets, foodservice distributors, and food processors. The farm grows a variety of potatoes, including conventional and organic potatoes, and has facilities for potato washing, grading, packaging, and storage. The potato operation is the foundation of a diverse agricultural enterprise that also produces turf, dried beans, and corn.

Larry Thibodeau began the farm in 1965, and it has been a family-run enterprise for three generations. Green Thumb Farms operates on over 2,000 acres of farmland in Western Maine's Saco River Valley. The company's potato production is aided by the region's alluvial soils and growth conditions, while its packing process employs quality control and sorting technology to prepare potatoes for various market demands.

Green Thumb Farms produces and markets potatoes for both fresh consumption and processing. Its potato portfolio includes varieties developed for various culinary and processing applications, such as the Norwis variety, which was bred for frying but can also be baked, mashed, used in potato salad, and made into home fries. The farm has also sold unique cultivars like Cold River Gold.

The farm's packing operation has included optical sorting, size grading, washing and quality-inspection systems, with traceability from the packaged product back to the field of origin. Green Thumb Farms has also supplied potatoes through retail and foodservice channels and has been associated with the Side Delights® fresh potato brand through Fresh Solutions Network.
