Chefs urged to take part in Potato Week 2011

September 07, 2011
Potato Week 2011 is kicking off next month (1-7 October) and is offering chefs and caterers the chance to take part in the event.

Simon Bull, marketing manager for Potato Council, believes potatoes are a versatile product and are a great ingredient for any kitchen.

"Potatoes are an important part of any menu. After all, they partner many of the nation's favourite dishes;bangers and mash, fish and chips and the much loved traditional roast dinner. They're tasty, satisfying, and nutritious and above all, deliver good profit margins;all of which will be acknowledged through Potato Week."

To take part in the event, the council is urging businesses to do something as simple as introducing a new variety or naming varieties used on the menu.

Highlighting provenance, particularly if potatoes are grown and supplied locally – and adding new potato-based dish ideas will also help to build interest, said the potato experts.

Potato Council has produced factsheets with recipe ideas to help caterers and chefs get the most out of potatoes into the autumn season. In addition, it is also providing top tips for buying potatoes as well as best practise when it comes to storing, handling and serving them.
