  • McDonald's revamped Happy Meal still doesn't make Canadian nutritionists happy
May 02, 2012
McDonald’s Canada tweaked the mood of the Happy Meal last week, shortly before the fast food giant’s annual charity fundraiser linked to the children’s meal.
Since April 26, Happy Meals automatically include strawberry yogurt and the choice of apple slices or a reduced portion of french fries. The chain billed the changes as part of an ongoing effort to make its food more nutritious.
“I still don’t think it’s a healthy choice,” said Jessica Hess, a registered dietitian with Philosophy Fitness and Nutrition in Edmonton, Canada. “The cheeseburger itself, which is the main part of the meal, is probably the worst part. It has the most sodium and the most fat in it and not much nutritional value for the amount of calories that it provides.”
