PotatoPro has learned that earlier today Dutch Potato Starch Manufacturer Avebe started the production campaign of harvest 2016 in its processing plant in Gasselternijveen.

In its Gasselternijveen production location Avebe not only manufactures potato starch but also its premium quality potato protein for use in food applications.

The start of its starch production campaign is in line with previous years.

This exceeds expectations, given the poor start of the current growing season: due to excessive rain in early spring potato planting progressed slowly. Although the first potatoes were planted at the end of March, the final potatoes were planted as late as the end of May. However, since growing conditions since the end of May and early June were good, the potato crop largely compensated for the late start of the season.

The first yield measurements show a starch content in line with the average in the last years.

It is too early for a prediction of the overall production, since growing conditions in both August and September can determine the total yield to a large extend. Favorable weather conditions and a healthy crop with access to sufficient nutrients are the key factors here.

In a week from today, Avebe will also start production in its plants in Ter Apelkanaal (The Netherlands) as well as in its plants in Lüchow and Dallmin, both located in Germany.
