Golden French fries showcasing quality, texture and consistency as Bangladesh introduces its first international-standard frozen fries under the Gloryfry brand.
Bangladesh Launches ‘Gloryfry’: First International-Standard Frozen French Fries to Cut Imports and Boost Exports

Bangladesh has achieved a major milestone in its agro-processing sector with the development of its first internationally competitive frozen French fries, marking a significant step toward reducing import dependence and strengthening value-added potato production.
The breakthrough comes through a collaboration between Planten Agro Limited and Alimento. The product, branded 'Gloryfry' is set to be introduced to the market in May 2026.
Benchmarking Against Global Leaders
To ensure world-class quality, the development process involved extensive benchmarking against leading international frozen fries brands. Multiple product samples were collected, tested, and evaluated across key parameters including taste, texture, color, and consistency.
This was not a one-time exercise. The teams conducted repeated testing and comparative analysis, aligning their production outputs with global standards. As a result, the final product has been found to be fully competitive with international offerings across all major quality indicators.
Reducing Import Dependence
Despite strong domestic potato production, Bangladesh has long relied on imported frozen French fries, leading to a substantial outflow of foreign currency each year.
The introduction of locally produced, high-quality frozen fries represents a strategic move toward import substitution. Industry experts view this as a crucial step in building a more self-sufficient and resilient food processing sector.
Edison Variety Drives Product Quality
Since 2024, the project has been based on the Edison potato variety, developed by Solana Group. The variety has demonstrated strong suitability for frozen fry production, offering consistent size, desirable texture, and reliable frying performance.
Planten Agro Limited has been actively working to introduce high-performance seed varieties and modern agricultural practices in Bangladesh. The company’s broader efforts include seed innovation, farmer partnerships, and supply chain development—key elements that supported this achievement.
Market Outlook and Export Potential
With the launch of Gloryfry scheduled for May 2026, the product is expected to meet growing domestic demand while also opening opportunities in international markets.
This development signals a broader shift in Bangladesh’s agro-industry, highlighting its potential to compete globally in processed potato products. By moving up the value chain, the country is positioning itself to create greater economic value from its agricultural base while supporting farmers and reducing reliance on imports.
