British Potato Confex 2026 brings together growers, processors, and suppliers to connect, share insights, and explore innovations across the potato supply chain in the United Kingdom.

Lincolnshire reinforces its central role in UK food production ahead of British Potato Confex 2026

April 21, 2026

Lincolnshire, the county that helped feed Britain during wartime, is back in focus as concerns grow over how much of its own food the United Kingdom can produce. The county – which today produces around 30% of England’s vegetables – will host a major new national farming event later this year, bringing the food supply chain into sharp focus at a time of global instability.

With ongoing conflicts and pressure on international supply routes, attention is turning back to the United Kingdom’s ability to feed itself – and to counties like Lincolnshire that have historically stepped in when it matters most.

Lincolnshire role in national food security

During both World Wars, domestic food production became critical as imports were disrupted. Potato growers in Lincolnshire played a key role in sustaining the nation. That role continues today. The county remains one of the United Kingdom’s most significant food-producing areas, with the potato sector forming a major part of its output.

Andy Pearce, Farmer at W.A. Pearce and Sons:

"Lincolnshire has always been relied on to help feed the country – especially when it matters most. In a less stable world, food security is becoming a real concern again. Growers here are producing at scale and are ready to meet that challenge, just as this county has done before."

Industry leaders highlight importance of the region

Stephanie Cornwall, Editor at British Potato Review:

"Lincolnshire sits right at the centre of the United Kingdom’s potato industry and wider food supply chain. Bringing a national event here reflects both its historic importance and its continued role in feeding the country."

British Potato Confex 2026 to focus on future resilience

British Potato Confex will take place at the Lincolnshire Showground on November 18 and 19, 2026. The event will bring together growers, processors, researchers and suppliers from across the United Kingdom, with a focus on the future of food production, resilience and supply chains.
