The international potato community will gather in Madrid on October 5, 2026, for the 1st International Symposium of Potato, a new event organized by FEPEX in collaboration with Fruit Attraction and Europatat.

The meeting will take place at IFEMA Madrid, on the eve of Fruit Attraction 2026, an edition in which the potato has been selected as the featured product. The symposium was created with the aim of providing a high-level platform for debate, knowledge exchange and collaboration among the different links of the potato value chain.

More than 400 professionals from Spain, Europe and other international markets are expected to participate, including growers, traders, seed potato specialists, researchers, processors, retailers, service providers and institutional representatives.

The symposium will serve as a meeting point to analyze the current evolution of the sector and the main future challenges related to potato production, trade and consumption.

Sustainable production, innovation and consumption

The program will address a wide range of key topics for the future of the industry, including sustainable production, plant health, breeding, innovation, consumer trends, marketing and the role of potatoes within modern agri-food systems.

The event will place special emphasis on promoting collaboration among the different players in the sector and on the exchange of best practices and knowledge at national and international level.

As one of the world’s most important food crops and a pillar of European agriculture, the potato plays an essential role in food security, rural development and sustainable food systems.

In this context, the symposium will be an opportunity to highlight the economic, social and nutritional importance of the potato, as well as to strengthen its position as a strategic crop in Europe and in the global market.

The organizers will provide further information in the coming months about the program, speakers, registration process and sponsorship packages.

The event will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the North Convention Center of IFEMA Madrid and will be followed by a networking reception until 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the symposium program, various sponsorship opportunities have been planned for companies interested in increasing their visibility among professionals and decision-makers in the international potato sector.

Europatat is the European Potato Trade Association and brings together national associations and companies involved in the trade of seed potatoes, ware potatoes and early potatoes in Europe. Its members include breeders, distributors, warehouse operators, packers, importers and exporters that supply seed potatoes to farmers, raw material to the food industry and packed potatoes to retail and foodservice channels.
