Kurdistan Region hosts Potato Field Day to highlight integration of potato farming and processing

The Kurdistan Region recently hosted the "Potato Field Day" event, organized by Beirut Erbil Company - a specialist in potato cultivation and processing—in cooperation with "Nahar Al-Awraad" Company, which specializes in table potato cultivation (fresh consumption).
The event was hosted at the headquarters and factory of Beirut Erbil, bringing together a distinguished group of officials, investors, and experts. Notably present were Ms. Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources; Mr. Sarwar Kamal Hawari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade; and Ms. Bertryl Snoeijer, Deputy Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Field tour highlights sustainable potato production
The event aimed to highlight the strategic integration between the agricultural sector and the agro-processing industry, featuring two main activities. The delegation visited the potato field at the research station of Beirut Erbil Company to review the sustainable technologies and approved potato varieties implemented.

During the tour, attendees widely praised the pioneering role of IPM Potato for providing high-quality seed potatoes and innovative agricultural solutions that meet the requirements of both the fresh and processing markets. Special recognition was also given to the "Fandango" table potato variety for its premium quality and high yield potential.

Processing facility demonstrates integrated supply chain
Attendees toured the potato chip processing plant of "Beirut Erbil" Company to learn about the production stages, from crop receiving to final packaging, all carried out in compliance with the highest benchmark standards.
Attendees and diplomats commended this integrated supply chain management model, emphasizing that linking field production directly to food processing—with development support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands and local authorities—is the fundamental pillar for achieving self-sufficiency, enhancing sustainable food security, and creating job opportunities in the region.
