De markt voor fritesgeschikte aardappelen gaat met het eind van het seizoen in zicht zeker niet als een nachtkaars uit maar lijkt eerder weer op te vlammen. De vaste stemming op de handelsbeurs van Rotterdam getuigt hiervan.
Het puzzelen met de nog geringe beschikbare voorraad aardappelen zorgt momenteel voor een flinke prijsstijging waarbij het opvalt dat het verschil tussen handels- en telerprijs nihil is. Hieruit blijkt dat de handel alleen nog bijkoopt om aan de verplichtingen te voldoen. De huidige vraag kan ook zo weer wegvallen. Het als teler tot het laatste moment wachten met de verkoop van de laatste vrije aardappelen is dan ook een riskante zaak. De huidige prijsstijging is o.a. het gevolg van de vraag van Duitse fritesfabrieken.
